How are athiest different from christians?

I am not saying all of either side, but most athiest I see on the net...just seem to spill scientific facts that they most likely do not understand, to prove their point. What I mean by this...is we can get the simplicity of, for example, a theory claiming we came from apes, and we can read about them and narrowly get the gist...but do any of you athiest even study these theories/facts from a collegiate stand point, do scientific testing/labs to prove your answers ? Have any of you went on to pursue an education where you can understand these facts in full, besides just reading websites? You can not understand trigonometry before you learn the basic of addition..and in the same sense..how is it that people think they can understand what they read with out doctoral scientific knowledge much less the basics of science? How is this different from a Christian who read a Bible and calls it a day? Genuine answers please..this isn't an argument...this is a thought and question.
